Privacy Policy

This notice explains what personal data LangNation collects, why, how long we keep it and what rights you have. It follows the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and German data protection law.

In short. We collect only what we need to teach you and to answer you. We do not sell your data, we do not use advertising trackers, and our analytics counts page views without identifying anyone. You can ask us at any time what we hold, and ask us to correct or delete it.

1. Who is responsible

The controller for the processing described here is the organisation named in our Imprint, which also gives our postal address and contact details. Write to us there about anything on this page.

2. What we collect, and why

When you send an enquiry

The contact form asks for your name, email address and message, and optionally your phone number, country and the course you are interested in. We also record the page you sent it from and your IP address.

  • Why: to answer you, and to recognise automated submissions.
  • Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR — steps taken at your request before entering a contract; and Art. 6(1)(f) — our legitimate interest in keeping the form usable.
  • Kept: up to two years after our last exchange, then deleted.

When you ask for a portal account

We ask for your name, email address and your reason for wanting an account, and optionally your phone number and country.

  • Why: so a person can decide whether to grant the account, and tell you either way.
  • Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR.
  • Kept: approved requests for as long as the account exists; declined ones for up to twelve months, so a decision can be reviewed or reversed.

When you hold a portal account

Your name, email address, contact details, course enrolments, attendance, placement test results and any certificates issued.

  • Why: to provide the course and the portal.
  • Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR.
  • Kept: while you are a student and afterwards only as long as the law requires — commercial and tax records must be kept for six or ten years under §257 HGB and §147 AO.

When you take the placement test

Your answers and the resulting level.

  • Why: to recommend the right course.
  • Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR.
  • Kept: twelve months, or for as long as you hold an account.

When you simply read the site

Our server records the page requested, the time and the language. We count page views to see which pages are useful.

  • Why: to keep the site working and to improve it.
  • Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR — our legitimate interest in a functioning website.
  • Kept: counts are aggregated and hold nothing that identifies a person.

We use no Google Analytics, no advertising pixels and no cross-site tracking of any kind.

3. Cookies

We set cookies only where they are needed for something you asked for:

  • Session cookie — keeps you signed in to the student portal. Deleted when the session ends.
  • Theme preference — remembers whether you chose light or dark. Stored in your browser, never sent to us.

These are strictly necessary, so no consent banner is required for them under §25(2) TTDSG. We set no advertising or analytics cookies.

4. Who else sees your data

Only those who must, and only to do their part:

  • Our hosting provider, which runs the servers and the mail service, under a data processing agreement (Art. 28 GDPR).
  • Examination bodies such as telc or the Goethe-Institut, where you ask us to register you for an examination.
  • Public authorities, where the law requires it.

We do not sell personal data and do not pass it to advertisers.

5. Transfers outside the EU

Our servers are in the European Union. Where a service we use processes data outside the EU, we rely on an adequacy decision of the European Commission or on Standard Contractual Clauses.

6. Machine translation

The German pages of this site were prepared with the help of DeepL, a translation service operated in Germany. Page content was sent for translation; no personal data of yours was involved.

7. Your rights

Under the GDPR you may ask us to:

  • tell you what we hold about you, and give you a copy (Art. 15);
  • correct anything inaccurate (Art. 16);
  • delete your data, where no legal duty requires us to keep it (Art. 17);
  • restrict how we use it (Art. 18);
  • hand it over in a portable form (Art. 20);
  • object to processing based on our legitimate interest (Art. 21);
  • withdraw consent at any time, where processing rests on consent (Art. 7(3)). This does not affect what was lawful before.

Write to the address in our Imprint. We answer within one month.

8. Complaints

If you think we have handled your data wrongly, please tell us first — most things are a misunderstanding we can fix quickly.

You also have the right to complain to a supervisory authority, in the EU state where you live, work, or where the issue arose. In Germany this is the data protection authority of the federal state in which we are established.

9. Is giving us data required?

Only where it is needed. We cannot teach you a course without your name and a way to reach you. Everything marked optional on a form really is optional, and leaving it blank changes nothing about how we treat you.

10. Automated decisions

We make no automated decisions producing legal effects concerning you, and we do not profile you.

Submissions to our forms are scored automatically for signs of automated abuse. A submission that scores highly is set aside for a person to look at rather than acted on by the machine, and no account or enrolment decision is ever made this way.

11. Changes to this notice

We update this page when what we do changes. The version in force is the one published here.

Not sure which level you need?

Tell us your goal and we will recommend a course and a start date. No obligation.
